What is the Short Course about?
This level 1 certificate is designed for mentors who are working with beginner (ITE) or early career teachers ECT 1&2). It equips mentors with core knowledge in the following areas:
- Role and attributes of a good mentor
- Understanding beginner teacher development
- Building rapport with mentees and managing transitions
- Observing and reflecting
- Effective feedback
When does the Short Course run?
The duration of this course is 6 contact hours. This course runs in person during the Autumn term with a repeat option in the Spring term. Please contact partnership@soton.ac.uk to confirm specific dates when this is running each academic year. It can also be accessed via a suite of recorded modules which can be viewed at any time.
What is the outcome of this Short Course?
This short Course is a non-credit bearing CPD course and you will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Southampton
How many people can do this course?
A maximum of 55 people can do this in person at one time.
What is the cost of this Short Course?
The level 1 Mentor Certification is £50. This course is free for mentors supporting Student Teachers from University of Southampton PGCE programmes.
